Until now the charity trustees have been reticent to ask supporters to attend Parish Council meetings as we are early in a long process of investigation, consultations and decision making. Additionally, the meetings are often made extremely unpleasant by those seeking to derail the democratic processes.
However, we understand the Parish Council are seeking to reverse decisions made at their September 2024 meeting. They wish to reverse accepting our recommendation to consider Manor Park and Homefield Park. Also, they seek to reverse their amendment to additionally include the Recreation Ground for consideration of a pump track. They hope to sweep the issue under the carpet. Just as they did with previous requests for a Skate Park. We feel it is important to have your support at the meeting on this occasion.
If you believe in the benefit of a Pump Track somewhere within the villages, please come along to the Parish Council meeting on Monday 21 July. The meeting is in the Community Room at the Recreation Ground, with refreshments from 7pm and formal business starting at 7:30pm. Please let Councillors know what the value of a pump track would be to you, your children or your grandchildren. Please encourage council to engage with a full evaluation of potential locations.
We are aware this date falls within the school summer holiday, reducing the young people and parents available to support us. Please come if you can, but do not feel bad if you are away. There will be other opportunities to help.
The Charity’s position is that while the Recreation Ground is the best ranked Parish location, there has been little willingness from the Parish Council to lose existing sport facilities for a pump track. As tenant or owner for two other highly – though not top – supported locations we have asked the Parish Council for assistance in evaluating, indeed potentially ruling out, Manor Park and Homefield Park. The council plans to overturn their decision to assist, in the hope that support for a track will evaporate. Help us show council that it will not go away. Do not let them deny another generation of young people.
