Since July 2025 Full Council Manor Park and Homefield Park have not been under consideration by the Parish Council to host a pump track. However, the Charity Trustees recognises concern from the community that these locations may return to consideration at a later date. Having taken on board the strong public feeling about Manor Park and Homefield Park, the HI Pump Track Charity Trustees have decided not to pursue either of these sites any further. We are enthusiastic about exploring new sites that balance biodiversity concerns with convenience and accessibility for a safe space for children and teenagers to spend time outdoors. We would love to hear ideas and suggestions for suitable locations for this exciting addition to our village.
A South Cambridgeshire District Council survey has shown that Histon & Impington has a shortfall in play space (both formal and informal), and sports space, something a pump track would be massively beneficial towards addressing. This also means building it on a new site, rather than replacing an existing recreation space, remains a key consideration for the Trustees.
The Charity is now several years into our mission to bring this idea to reality. All of the benefits that pump tracks have been shown to bring to areas like ours — reductions in antisocial behaviour and more ways for young people to have fun outdoors while enjoying all the mental and physical health benefits that entails — would be massively helpful here in Histon & Impington. The young people of the village have few places that are ‘theirs’, and this would provide an informal place to hang out, share skills and make friends.
It’s a project that has been on occasion misunderstood, and has a tendency to provoke strong opinions, which is understandable given that we’ve never had anything like this here before, and it’s less one-size-fits-all than a lot of sports facilities, which makes it harder to picture. However, the charity’s aims are aligned with many of those expressing concern about the project — more people spending quality time outdoors in our beautiful village.
Meanwhile, the Charity is seeking volunteers to help deliver a pump track within Histon & Impington. We are particularly seeking board members with finance, communications, graphic design, planning and environmental skills.
